About the flies
- Where are your flies tied? In Kenya, by professional tyers, one at a time at a vice. We publish the country on every product page rather than describing them as imported.
- Are they really hand-tied? Yes. Every fly is tied individually. There is no such thing as a machine-tied fly at this quality level, but there is a great deal of hurried hand-tying, which is what the spec sheet and the check exist to prevent.
- What hooks do you use? Carbon steel, with the model and size range published per pattern. Hook numbering is not standard between makers, which is why we name the model rather than only the number.
- Do you sell barbless? Barbs can be pinched flat with forceps in a couple of seconds. Tell us if you need a run tied barbless and we will quote it.
- How many flies in a pack? Twelve, unless the product says otherwise. Curated boxes hold 12, 36 or 60.
Choosing
- I am new — what should I buy? The Starter Dozen, or read our guide to a first fly box. Six patterns cover most trout water for a season.
- Which size should I order? If in doubt, the middle of the range we list. Our hook size guide explains why dropping two sizes fixes most refusals.
- Do you sell rods and reels? No. That is a different business with different economics, and we would rather be good at flies.
